Walk in the Light – 1 John 1:5-2:2

Below is a PDF of my sermon from July 1, 2018, titled “Walk in the Light.” In 1 John 1:7, we are invited to walk in the light, meaning to live a life (walk) that follows and testifies to God’s character (the light). Central to this walk is confession and forgiveness. We are called to bring sin into the light through confession so that it no longer festers in us, thanks to forgiveness in Christ. While being forgiven is central to walking in the light, so is forgiving. Forgive as you are forgiven.

Walk in the Light Sermon – 1 John 1:5-2:2

Reflection/Discussion Questions:

  1. What does it mean to “walk in the light”? Think of practical ways you can walk in the light this week.
  2. What has been the role of confession and forgiveness in your life?
  3. Describe the feeling of bringing a confession into the light.
  4. We are called to forgive others as we are forgiven. Why is that important for the person in need of forgiveness? Why is that important to you as the forgiver?

Grace and Peace!
