From God – 1 John 4:1-6

This week’s text gives us a guide to discern the spirits. In other words, John is giving his congregation, and us today, a way to determine whether or not the inspiration behind a person’s message is from God or from the world. From the spirit of truth or the spirit of error. We need this today. While we do not have unknown traveling preachers and prophets speaking to us at worship, like in John’s day, we do have countless voices vying for our attention. These come from the internet, television, the news, etc. Which messages are from God? Which messages are from the world?

Here is this week’s sermon manuscript: From God – 1 John 4:1-6

Reflection/Discussion Questions:

  1. What are the two tests John provides us for discerning the spirits?
  2. How can I use these two tests in my life?
  3. In what parts of my life do I listen to the messages from the world over or instead of the messages from God?
  4. Practically, what will I do this week to purposefully listen to messages from God?

Grace and Peace!
