God is Love – 1 John 4:7-21

We close up our short series in 1 John with some of his most famous words. This passage is all about love. God is love. Love is from God. We must love others if we claim to love God. Perfect love casts out fear. There is so much. I invite you to spend this week reflecting on 1 John 4:7-21. Allow it to convict you. None of us love perfectly, and we all need to be convicted to love God and our neighbors more fully.

Here is this week’s sermon manuscript: God is Love – 1 John 4:7-21

Reflection/Discussion Questions:

  1. How do you define love?
  2. Is God an important part of how you would define love? Why or why not?
  3. Perfect love casts out fear, John says. What fear do you need cast out? How can love cast out your specific fear(s)?
  4. John says we are liars if we say we love God and hate their brothers and sisters. First: who are our brothers and sisters? Second: I think we can all admit that we fall short of loving our brothers and sisters as we should. What can you change this week to love better?
