In Ruth 2, which we’ll explore this Sunday, contains a special sort of prayer. I call it special for two reasons: one, it’s not a typical prayer we’d pray (it’s more of a blessing), and two, it is a prayer that the one praying embodies. We are called to pray. We are also called to seek out ways to embody that changes and blessings that we seek.
In Ruth 2, Boaz blesses Naomi and Ruth through his protection and generosity. He admires Ruth and wants to help her. He says this blessing to her:
“May the Lord reward you for your deeds, and may you have a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge!”
Boaz speaks this blessing over Ruth, and throughout the book, he is also an instrument of God’s blessing to Ruth and Naomi. When we pray for someone, for blessing or healing or comfort – whatever it may be – may we also be people who follow God’s leading to be channels of God’s blessing or healing or comfort.
This week, pray blessing over someone. And, if possible, allow God to use you to bless that person.
