Prayers (Part 1)

One common post you’ll see during the COVID-19 period on this page is prayer. These posts will be prayers for those affected by the virus itself, the social changes, and the anxiety/fears of the times.

I’d like to start with those on the ‘front lines.’ Many have compared this period to wartime, and there are so many people who are sacrificing their own health for the health of others. As you pray, think of people you know in these categories of first responder; name them, picture them in your mind, spend time lifting them up before reading on. There are many in our church family who represent these folks.

Lord, hear our prayers.

For nurses, those brave women and men who care for us in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, at home, and everywhere else they are needed. For their safety and health and that of their families, for their patients, for increased energy and drive to serve,

Lord, hear our prayers.

For doctors, those tasked with holding so many decisions and lives in the midst of this outbreak. For their safety and health and that of their families, for their patients, for increased energy and drive to serve,

Lord, hear our prayers.

For firefighters, EMTs, and police officers, those who – for our sake – cannot work from home and whose time and energy will be stretched even more than usual. For their safety and health and that of their families and for increased energy and drive to serve,

Lord, hear our prayers.

For hospital administrators and staff, those tasked with organizing beds, respirators, schedules, maintenance, and so much more. For their safety and health and that of their families, for their patients and staff, for increased energy and drive to serve,

Lord, hear our prayers.

For researchers, those working tirelessly to gather information and create a vaccine. For their safety and health and that of their families, for efficiency of their work, for increased energy and drive to serve,

Lord, hear our prayers.

For these precious ones, and so many more people working directly for our health whom we have failed to list here, hear our prayers.

Amen.
