Bringing Sunday into Monday

A sermon with the title of “End of the Age” may raise images of people with sandwich boards that say, “THE END IS NEAR!”

The End Is Near This Will Never End Your Optimism Disgusts Me

Sorry if this disappoints, but that’s not what I’m going for.

Instead, the focus of Mark 13 is explaining that Jesus’s crucifixion was age-changing. Jesus’s death and resurrection was the greatest history-altering event in human history (if I may be so bold to proclaim that).

That means that we live in this new age, a post-Jesus-resurrection age. Jesus’s first advice to his disciples about this age was this, and it carries on to us today: “Beware that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come” (Mark 13:5-7)

Beware! Be alert. Be wise as serpents but gentle as doves. In the time we find ourselves, awareness is crucial. We need to be aware of how to love and care for our neighbors in the age of coronavirus and the physical, emotional, and spiritual impact it has on all of us. Beware of false information. Do not fear. But, be aware.
