I usually post on here by noon on M-Th, and some Fridays.
But, boy, I’m tired today.
I think it’s important to share that. Not to complain, not to get sympathy, but to be transparent with you all and stand in solidarity with you.
Because I bet you’re tired, too.
Tired from the emotional energy you’ve needed to exert over the last two months to adapt to significant changes in your life.
Tired from managing your job from home, or from working your essential worker job, or from the stress of losing your job.
Tired from hearing an overwhelming amount of coronavirus news.
Tired from doing your best to keep your kids healthy, educated, entertained, etc. while also trying to do that for yourself.
Tired from straining your eyes with increased screen time and video conferencing.
Tired from so much.
So, this week I’ll be writing about rest, and the unique challenge it is to rest right now. We cannot ignore rest and ignore its significance. It is the fourth commandment, and in Exodus, it has the longest explanation of the Ten Commandments. God tells us that rest is important, vital even.
Let’s talk about rest this week. I think it’s appropriate to start off with admitting that we’re tired and need rest, especially in this season. It’s a gift from God, created for us: “The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath” (Mark 2:27).
Tune in this week to learn about sabbath rest.
